Details

Navigating the Grey ("NTG") is an annual student-led ethics conference at Chicago Booth, born out of the Great Recession in recognition of our responsibilities as future leaders. Every year, we invite prominent representatives of the private and social sectors so that they can share with us pivotal moments in their lives, and the principles which underline their ability to lead with integrity and impact.

Our goal is to inspire audience members to define their own compass of values, and think consciously about how we will live out those values in the face of inevitable "grey areas" in our personal and professional lives. How will we not just survive these grey areas, but thrive in them?

Pete Shimer is a Senior Advisor to the CEO providing engaging on strategic marketplace initiatives and providing guidance and support to members of the Deloitte US executive leadership team.

He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Deloitte, bridging strategy and operations to ensure world-class operating results for Deloitte US. As the ultimate steward of the organization’s assets, he is responsible for evaluating major investments—including acquisitions, joint ventures, technology, and innovation—and driving strategic choices in the area of cost leadership across the organization. As COO, he had oversight of Finance & Administration, Information Technology, and Corporate Development. Pete was co-chair of Deloitte's Operating Committee and is a continuing member of the US Executive Committee.

Pete has spent his entire career at Deloitte, starting as an auditor and serving in a number of leadership roles over the years, including Deloitte US interim Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer for the US, a lead client service partner for several Fortune 1000 clients, and Managing Partner of Deloitte's Seattle office. He continues to serve select large, global clients as lead client service partner or advisory partner.

Pete is a Board member for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and a Board member for the University of Washington Foster School of Business.

Pete received a BS in Accounting from the University of Washington.
