Navigating the Grey '26 Day 1 - Dawn Owens

Navigating the Grey ("NTG") is an annual student-led ethics conference at Chicago Booth, born out of the Great Recession in recognition of our responsibilities as future leaders. Every year, we invite prominent representatives of the private and social sectors so that they can share with us pivotal moments in their lives, and the principles which underline their ability to lead with integrity and impact.

Our goal is to inspire audience members to define their own compass of values and think consciously about how we will live out those values in the face of inevitable "grey areas" in our personal and professional lives. How will we not just survive these grey areas, but thrive in them?

Dawn Owens is CEO and Partner at Truehelm (formerly TT Capital Partners) and brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience. Dawn joined the firm in 2014. During her tenure as CEO, Dawn led the sale of the healthcare investment banking business (TripleTree) to CapitalOne. When the sale closed in 2021, Dawn remained with Truehelm serving on the Investment Committee, Risk & Compliance Committee, Valuation Committee, and ESG Committee alongside the boards of portfolio companies.

Prior to joining in 2014, Dawn served as the CEO of OptumHealth, a UnitedHealth Group company. Under her leadership, OptumHealth became a well-respected diversified services company serving payers, providers, and government services. During this time, Optum Health completed transformational transactions to enter into the healthcare delivery and military health markets. Dawn’s previous roles include serving as the Chief Marketing Officer of Ingenix (now OptumInsight) and President of Uniprise (now a part of UnitedHealthcare). Dawn started her healthcare career at Aetna Health Plans.

Dawn holds a B.A. from Grove City College with a major in International Business and German; she currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for her alma mater.
