Details

Navigating the Grey ("NTG") is an annual student-led ethics conference at Chicago Booth, born out of the Great Recession in recognition of our responsibilities as future leaders. Every year, we invite prominent representatives of the private and social sectors so that they can share with us pivotal moments in their lives, and the principles which underline their ability to lead with integrity and impact.

Our goal is to inspire audience members to define their own compass of values, and think consciously about how we will live out those values in the face of inevitable "grey areas" in our personal and professional lives. How will we not just survive these grey areas, but thrive in them?

Dave Evans is a Stanford University professor, entrepreneur, and bestselling author known for pioneering the application of design thinking to personal and professional development. He is a co-founder of the Life Design Lab at Stanford University, where he teaches one of the university’s most popular courses, Designing Your Life, which helps students and professionals build fulfilling careers through a design-driven approach.

Before entering academia, Dave spent over 15 years in Silicon Valley, including an early role at Apple, where he contributed during a formative period of the company’s growth. He has also co-founded multiple startups and holds several patents, blending technical expertise with a passion for innovation.

Dave is the co-author of the  #1 New York Times bestselling book Designing Your Life, along with Bill Burnett. His work has reached millions worldwide, influencing how individuals approach career transitions, decision-making, and life planning. Through his teaching, writing, and speaking, Evans empowers people to navigate uncertainty, reframe challenges, and design lives that are both meaningful and adaptable.
