Join us for a week-long series of CWiB-organized events that all focus on the theme of women as community builders. Talks, panels, and workshops will focus on how to advocate for yourself, how to advocate for others, and the more foundational material on the importance of diversity and inclusion generally and at this particular moment in history. Please read below for more detailed session descriptions. Also, please note that food and refreshments will be served at each event.

At the heart of America’s current social conflict are fundamental questions about our values as a nation. What does it mean to be American? When will women be fully equal? What should we do about immigration? Will we ever fully embrace the LGBT community into our society? Will racism diminish in a majority/minority future America? As one of the most diverse nations on earth, how can we live together peacefully and productively? Leader-Chivée passionately argues that we must find a way to make our multifaceted diversity an asset, or else it will continue to be our deepest and most painful source of strife. In Crossing the Thinnest Line, she explains it is possible to bridge our divides and turn our differences into a source of ingenuity, innovation, and prosperity. It is possible to talk about difference so that everyone becomes part of the solution.

Lauren Leader-Chivée is the Co-Founder and CEO of All In Together. She has dedicated her career to closing the most critical personal, professional and political gender gaps for women. In addition to her role at AIT, Lauren is an Executive Advisor to Deloitte working with a range of global companies on their most pressing diversity issues. Formerly the President of the global think tank Center for Talent Innovation and Founding Partner at Hewlett Chivée Partners LLC, she has tirelessly advocated for women’s leadership as a driver of economic growth and opportunity.

Annie is a recovering corporate real estate attorney with an eye for style and a passion for product development. She spent six years in Big Law closing billions of dollars of real estate deals for institutional lenders and equity owners. She is fascinated by simple answers to big questions. Annie is now a mother of two in New York City and co-founder of WERK — a marketplace for flexible and ambitious job opportunities to help women achieve equal representation in leadership, help business, and progress society. Join us as we gather practical advice from three different perspectives on we can better advocate for ourselves as we progress in our careers:
 
Elatia Abate is an entrepreneur who left the corporate world with the desire to “revolutionize the way the world thinks about careers and making money.” She uses extensive experience combining people, innovation and marketing strategies to teach individuals how to create careers that bring personal and professional fulfillment, and to teach companies how to build vibrant cultures and recruit the talent needed to ensure growth and success. Before beginning this journey, Elatia was Vice President of Human Resources and Director of Recruitment for Dow Jones & Company. She also served as Global Director Talent Acquisition at Anheuser-Busch InBev. She is a design thinking enthusiast, a lover of improv comedy and storytelling. Elatia attended The University of Chicago for both for her MBA and undergrad degree.

Beth Satterfield has served as Head of Market Development and Managing Director at William Blair & Company since August 2015. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Aurora Investment Management and Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Glencoe Capital Holdings, LLC. Prior to moving into executive management, she had extensive deal experience with funds, as a Vice President in Glencoe Capital’s investment team for three years, and was the first Vice President of the Leveraged Finance Group at LaSalle Bank and BANA Holding Corporation. Before that, she was the Vice President of Corporate Banking Group at JP Morgan Chase from 1990 to 1994. She earned an MBA from Booth in 1998.
 

Prior to joining the Clayman Intstitute for Gender Researcg, Terra Terwilliger spent 20 years working for technology companies and in consulting. Most recently, she was Vice President of Marketing at Citrus Lane. Her prior experience includes leading marketing organizations at Microsoft, AT&T Wireless, Reputation.com, Rypple, and a variety of other venture-backed companies, as well as consulting for McKinsey and Company. Terwilliger has an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley and a BA in History from Stanford University.

The changing economy is impacting careers, whether we realize it or not. In the United States alone, machines and other forms of technology will replace 47% of the jobs that exist today. Since 2010, half of the new jobs created in Europe are contract or freelance positions. Three billion more people will have access to the Internet and the entrepreneurial opportunities it provides in the next five to seven years. In short, the disruption that is happening in the work world is massive. It will impact our careers and it is one of the most exciting things to happen in our lifetimes. We’ve simply got to be prepared. This talk will show you how.
 
 
How to Advocate for Others

As a genderqueer writer and performer, Jacob has done considerable work with both MTV (they were the star of the recent, GLAAD Award-nominated episode of True Life: I'm Genderqueer) and NBC News (where they host a new series called Queer 2.0). In addition to Jacob's work in media, they also do speak at universities across the country about LGBTQ mental health, the challenges facing nonbinary trans people, and how we can build a trans movement that is truly inclusive of GNC folks. As an advocate, they have a broad range of experience working in the corporate LGBT diversity world, having recently worked for Out Leadership, an LGBT business strategy firm in NY. Jacob has also worked at the United Nations Foundation, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.

Laura McGee is an Engagement Manager at McKinsey and a co-founder of the #GoSponsorHer Challenge. Laura’s focus at McKinsey is on innovation, technology and economic growth. She has led work on women in leadership, looking at the business and public policy case for change and developing strategies to build the pipeline. 
 
#GoSponsorHer is a social media challenge and awareness-raising campaign to encourage senior leaders to actively champion high-potential women. Their aim is to catalyze sponsorship and build a pipeline that will increase the number of women in leadership roles.
