ESPN invited MESG members to a new one-day event focused on the intersection of women, sports and business. espnW: Women + Sports Chicago will take place on April 20th in Chicago. The event will unite thought leaders and experts from across the industry to explore topics including Women and Leadership, Marketing to Women, the Sports Industry Future, and the Business of Women and Sports.

Thomas Staggs, Disney’s heir apparent, steps down

In an unexpected turn, Disney COO Thomas Staggs announced that he would step down effective May 6th. He was widely believed to be the company's favored successor to current CEO Bob Iger (taking this title following Booth alumnus Jay Rasulo's departure from the company). Read more here.

Verizon to acquire stake in Dreamworks' AwesomenessTV

Intending to support its mobile content app go90, Verizon acquired a 24.5% equity stake in online video producer AwesomenessTV from Dreamworks Animation for $160 million. The deal values AwesomenessTV at $650 million, three years after Dreamworks acquired the company for under $100 million and less than two years after Hearst acquired a 25% equity stake at an implied valuation of $325 million. The Barre Code is a boutique fitness concept offering group fitness classes focused on cardio, strength, and restoration. They are looking for a Corporate Strategy Intern who will be involved in activities including investor pitches, competitive analysis of the boutique fitness space, and forecasting.
