Chicago Booth Muslims in Business (MiB) was born out of a simple but important realization: While Muslim students were present across the school, there was no formal structure to bring the community together. Connections were often made informally—through friends, chance encounters, or not at all—and as each class graduated, much of that community disappeared with them. There was no continuity, no central hub, and no lasting foundation to build upon.
In 2019, MiB was formally established to change that. The goal was not just to create community in the moment, but to build something enduring—an organization that could grow, evolve, and serve future generations of Muslim students and allies without needing to start from scratch each year.
In its early years, MiB maintained a focused and intimate scope. Programming centered around a small number of key events each academic year, including Ramadan iftaars, welcome gatherings, and select cultural or interfaith initiatives. These moments created a foundation for connection and belonging within the Booth community.
As the community matured and membership expanded, MiB grew alongside it. Programming became more dynamic and wide-ranging, incorporating educational events, professional development opportunities, and deeper cultural engagement. Each leadership team built on the work of those before them—refining what worked, reimagining what didn’t, and steadily strengthening the organization’s impact.
Today, we stand as a vibrant and growing community rooted in connection, continuity, and shared purpose—supporting Muslim students and allies at Booth while building a lasting foundation for those who follow.
