Kaveh Safavi, M.D., J.D., is a senior managing director at Accenture where he helps organizations harness the promise of technology and human ingenuity to humanize healthcare. He works with providers, health insurers, and public and private health systems in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.
A seasoned executive, Dr. Safavi brings more than three decades of leadership experience to Accenture Health. Prior to joining Accenture in 2011, Dr. Safavi led Cisco’s global healthcare practice. Before that he was chief medical officer of Thomson Reuters’ health business, vice president of medical affairs at United Healthcare, and had leadership roles at HealthSpring and Humana. Among his many accomplishments was establishing one of the Midwest’s first electronic-health-record-enabled primary care practices.
Dr. Safavi has published numerous papers and is often quoted on healthcare issues in various media publications, including The Wall Street Journal, the BBC, The New York Times, Consumer Reports, US News and World Report, Harvard Business Review and The Economist. Recently, IT Services Report named him the #1 healthcare IT executive for 2020.
Dr. Safavi earned an M.D. from Loyola University School of Medicine and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. He is board-certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and completed his medical residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
An adjunct lecturer of Health Enterprise Management at Kellogg School of Management-Northwestern University, Dr. Safavi also serves on the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences’ Board of Visitors–Northwestern University and is a member of the Easterseals National Board of Directors.
Bharat leads the Vizient data and digital business unit, where he is responsible for all Vizient software solutions and technology functions. The data and digital business enables providers with real-time insights, digital solutions and managed services all built on an integrated data platform. Previously, Bharat served as Vizient President and Chief Operating Officer.
During his time at Vizient, the business has grown from $670M to $2.2B revenue and has expanded from a largely supply chain services business to a full healthcare performance improvement company spanning data & analytics, technology, consulting, and supply chain services.
Prior to Vizient, Bharat served in several roles at MedAssets from 2009 to 2016, including President of the Spend and Clinical Resource Management segment. MedAssets was a publicly traded business that was sold for $2.7B in 2016, with the Spend and Clinical Resource Management segment being acquired by Vizient.
Prior to MedAssets, Bharat was with the Boston Consulting Group. Outside of Vizient, Bharat has served on the Boards of Vocera (NYSE: VCRA, acquired for $3.1B by Stryker in 2022) and Kaufman Hall (acquired by Vizient in 2024). Bharat earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar.

The Healthcare Group (HCG) is a Booth full-time MBA student group that connects students, alumni, and healthcare professionals.
Our members are interested in the current issues facing healthcare and are passionate about applying their business training to the industry. They pursue a variety of careers in the sector, including those in healthcare services/administration, pharma/device, consulting, investing, and start-ups.
We organize events throughout the school year to facilitate learning, networking, and recruiting in the healthcare industry. These events include the annual Healthcare Conference, Lunch and Learns with industry leaders, and other topical presentations relevant to our members.
