HCG Activities

Recruiting Support

Chicago Booth allocates a significant amount of resources to ensure that students have the opportunities to learn about and pursue their desired healthcare careers. Booth has developed a strong reputation for preparing students with and without a healthcare background to become prominent leaders within the healthcare industry. In addition to the activities listed on this page, HCG supports its members by leveraging the Booth student network. First year students in HCG are assigned to second year mentors for 1-on-1 help with internship searching, networking, and interview preparation. The abundance of resources available through HCG makes Booth one of the top target schools for recruiters.

Healthcare 101

HCG invites leaders in each of the major healthcare verticals to have an open dialogue with students. These Healthcare 101 Sessions allow students to learn more about the career opportunities, trends, and key players throughout the healthcare industry. Healthcare 101 is designed for students who have zero experience in healthcare as well as for those with a healthcare background who want to explore what else is out there. Previous speakers include Jennifer Bazante, Chief Marketing Officer of Humana, Griffin Myers, founder and CMO of Oak Street Health, and J.P. Fairbank, and more.

Healthcare Conference

The annual healthcare conference hosted by HCG is a full-day conference on healthcare topics relevant to Booth students, alumni, and healthcare professionals. The conference draws a diverse group of attendees from across the University of Chicago graduate schools and the greater Chicago healthcare community, providing a highly valued environment for networking and collaboration. Conference speakers and panelists include highly influential leaders within the healthcare industry.

Company Lunch & Learns

Informal Lunch & Learn events provide Booth students the opportunity to interact with recruiting companies, healthcare-focused professors, and other students on a wide variety of healthcare topics. The open discussions focused on the latest healthcare topics enable students to improve their understanding of the industry as well as network with companies seeking to hire Booth students.

Treks

HCG organizes multiple-day treks for students to visit healthcare companies. Through these visits HCG members can expand their knowledge about the industry, learn about new innovations and trends, and connect with industry leaders. In recent years treks have included company presentations, plant and lab tours, product demonstrations, round-table discussions and panels, and networking opportunities with employees ranging all the way to C-suite.

Case Competitions

HCG members consistently participate (and win!) in healthcare-focused case competitions. Booth students consistently finalists in Kellogg's Biotechnology Case Competition and the Cleveland Clinic Administrative Case Competition.

Socials

HCG is the most social professional group at Booth. We are fond of heading to dinner after conferences, hitting up karaoke, and staying until the very end of our social events. For whatever reason, members of HCG enjoy spending time together and never turn down an invitation to a social event.

Alumni Networking

HCG is the main point of contact between current Booth students and Booth healthcare alumni. Alumni mixers and speaker panels foster the broader Booth healthcare community.

Guest Lectures

In addition to Lunch & Learns and speakers at the healthcare conference, HCG regularly hosts guest lectures from prominent thought leaders in the healthcare industry.

Resource Guide

The HCG Resource Guide is designed to help first year students new to the industry. The guide includes helpful materials such as company profiles and recruiting resources.
